Descriptions

PROFILE OF THE PROGRAMME
Physiotherapists are experts in the assessment and promotion of clients' mobility and functional capacity. They plan, implement, evaluate and develop their work independently.
The physiotherapist acts in a socially responsible way, taking into account the ideas of sustainable development in different ways. They collaborate with the medical staff in charge of their clients' treatment and represent their profession in multi-professional teams. The central aim in physiotherapy is to maintain the functional and work capacity of the population as long as possible. The physiotherapists also seek to affect our living and working environment.

OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES
Physiotherapists are experts in the assessment and promotion of clients' mobility and functional capacity. The physiotherapists work in hospitals, health centres, research and care institutions, rehabilitation centres and spas, in the occupational health service, in public health and sports organizations, in institutions for the disabled and the elderly, in children's day care centres, in schools and in the municipal provision of physical education services. They may also become independent practitioners.

After graduation, the student has developed their international skills in many different ways; through the foreign language material used in the studies, lectures produced by exchange teachers and means to support home internationality, for example, participating in intensive weeks.

The curriculum includes five seams permeating through the studies and extending over them. They are based on SeAMK’s reports, studies and strategy, as well as on the national and international recommendations and regulations related to education provided by universities of applied sciences.
- The Information Search seam strengthens the student’s professional and field-specific information search skills throughout the studies.
- The Internationalization seam secures the improvement of the student’s international competencies during their studies.
- The studies corresponding to the Entrepreneurship seam help the student understand the central and growing role of entrepreneurship in society.
- The Sustainable Development seam makes the student aware of social responsibility and helps them understand the diversity of sustainable development as a working life skill.

PEDAGOGICAL APPROACH
The pedagogical aim of physiotherapy education is to combine high-quality teaching with working life. Where applicable, we also combine teaching with research and development activities. Through co-development, we strengthen multidisciplinary activities and work-life orientation. Work life-oriented education motivates students in their studies. Diverse learning environments and new technological applications at SeAMK make it possible to combine theoretical studies with practical situations. In the SeAMK Wellbeing Labs learning environment, working life skills are practiced in multi-professional teams. Real customer situations and assignments will be solved. Learning becomes interesting and concrete. Students’ professional growth is supported on an individual basis throughout their studies.

The curriculum is made up of entities that promote the development and deepening of a physiotherapist's expertise. Teaching is carried out as contact and distance teaching, independent teaching and online teaching. The study includes working in small groups, expert lectures, project work and practical training in various learning environments. In the implementation of physiotherapy study courses, the focus is on working life-oriented study courses and theses, as well as on-the-job training.

During studies, you learn to solve problems in the way required by practical work. Because of this, in the curriculum, individual subjects are integrated into broader study units and themes. In training, instead of sharing knowledge, the emphasis is on generating experiences and skills.

Working life and expertise require knowledge acquisition and processing skills, continuous learning and the ability to use evidence-based information in practical work. The student takes responsibility for his own learning and commits to goal-directed self-directed study both in theory studies and in practice.

The evaluation follows the examination rules of SeAMK. Assessment is used to guide and check the achievement of the student's study goals. The evaluation criteria are based on the goals of the study course and the evaluation criteria are recorded in the realizations of the study courses. The physiotherapist degree program is developed every semester together with the students during a joint development day.
