Descriptions

This Master's degree programme aims at creating development, management and evaluation competences to meet changing needs in social work and health care practice. The clinical expertise studies are linked to work community development through innovative practices and models.

Students have an opportunity to deepen and extend their competence in prevalent diseases and in the management of acute situations. The programme also improves students’ ability to assess patients’ or clients’ care needs and functional capacity and their preparedness to use various counselling and communication methods. The programme offers students new competences and career opportunities.

The studies are working life-oriented and multi-professional. Electronic communication is essential in study counselling and tutoring.
It is possible to study while at work, as the studies include an average of 2 days of contact teaching per month. Each student’s study plan will be individualized, including recognition of prior learning.
• Career prospects in the public sector: demanding client work in social and health services, service planning and management
• Career prospects in organizations: expert positions, development, education and management
• Career prospects in the private sector: first line management, management, development of intersectoral practices and service models

Development

Students come from the social and health care practice, which makes possible ongoing dialogue and development based on the needs of workplaces. Development undertakings are also carried out in collaboration with other schools of Seinäjoki UAS and with national networking forums.

Objective

Upon completion of the degree programme students will be competent to work as clinical experts in health and social services. The focus will be on public health and prevalent diseases, clinical work and acute situations.
