Objective

The student
- knows the legislation for school health care and the contents for the services.
- is able to plan, implement and evaluate the screening of a school aged child's growth and development and the health examinations included.
- is able to support the school aged child, teenager and his/her family towards health promoting choices.
- is able to support parenting.
- is able to recognize the needs for special support for a school aged child, teenager and his/her family.
- is able to counsel and guide clients for follow-up treatment when needed.
- is able to cooperate with other personnel working at school.
- can maintain and promote a safe and healthy school environment and community.
- is able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team in school health care.

Content

Family health services, school health care services, the legislation and recommendations included.
Health examinations for school aged children and teenagers, health screening methods and evaluation.
Counseling and supporting for a school aged child, teenager and his/her family.
Cooperation with the family and support for parenting.
First aid and receptions when needed at school health care.
Multiprofessional cooperation in school health care.
Promoting the mental health of school-aged children, teenagers and their families.
Early recognition of the needs for special support for a school aged child, teenager and his/her family and intervention and referral to follow-up treatment.
Promotion of a safe school environment and community.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student
- identifies the basic knowledge of the different aspects of public health care for school-aged children.
- is capable of independent decision-making in different situations and operating environments in public health care for school-aged children.
- operates in a client-oriented and client-friendly manner in public health nurse work taking into account professional ethical principles
- is able to guide individual clients and their families in public health care for school-aged children.
- works as a public health care expert in multidisciplinary groups.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student
- demonstrates management of the knowledge base of different areas of health care and applies information widely in public health care for school-aged children.
- is capable of independent decision-making in different situations in public health care for school-aged children and environments.
- operates in a client-oriented, responsible and safe manner in health care for school-aged children taking into account professional ethical principles
- is able to listen, support, and guide individual clients and their families in health care for school-aged children.
- works as a health care expert in public health care for school-aged children multidisciplinary groups.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student
- demonstrates wide-ranging management of the knowledge base of the various areas of health care and expertly applies it in public health care for school-aged children.
- is capable of independent decision-making different situations and environments in public health care for school-aged children.
- works according to the needs of the client and his/her family in public health nurse work.
- is able to listen, support, and guide the client and his/her family in public health care for school-aged children.
- demonstrates the management of individual, group, and community health promotion methods.

- does not take adequate account of professional ethical principles in the field of health care.
