Objective

After competing this course, a student will be able to
- define and describe health literacy
- articulate how health literacy impacts on health and risk of dementia
- identify clues and set questions that may help to assess the level of health literacy
- assess written, verbal, and online information about brain health and risk of dementia for readability and usability
- list the risk factors and the warning signs and symptoms of dementia
- classify the factors that promote brain health
- explain conditions associated with cognitive impairment and dementia
- demonstrate ability to find reliable information about services for people living with dementia and their families

Accepted: The student can define health literacy and the factors affecting it. The student can name the effects of health literacy on an individual's health. The student identifies methods that can be used to assess the level of health literacy as well as the comprehensibility and usability of information. The student is able list risk factors and early signs of memory disorders and define different memory disorders and related symptoms. The student identifies factors and actions that promote brain health. The student knows how to search for up-to-date and reliable information about memory disorders and related services.

The student recognizes factors and actions that promote brain health to a limited extent.
