Objective
The student:
- is able to specify his/her knowledge needs and to name concepts related to his/her subject (in Finnish, English) and structure them hierarchically.
- can select professional and research sources of information appropriate to his/her knowledge needs.
- can use the national and international databases and other online services for specialist information provided by the SeAMK library.
- can interpret the information they find, critically evaluate it and develop their search for information.
- apply the SeAMK guidelines for written work when using sources and citing references.
- can produce an extended written presentation that meets the criteria of a scientific text.
- comply with conventions and ethical principles concerning the use of information and communication situations.
- have the knowledge and skills needed to write a maturity essay.
Content
Information seeking
- structuring your own topic using concepts and brainstorming keywords (Finnish, English)
- national and international databases and online expert information services
- online providers of professional and research information in the field
- interpreting and evaluating the information found and examining the ethics of the information
Communication:
- mastery of the language, structure and style of scientific texts
- ethical use and labelling of sources and the compilation of a list of references
- demonstrating expertise
- language and grammar
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student:
- can identify information needs and select information sources.
- can use the collections offered by the SeAMK library and identify other databases.
-can organise and evaluate the information they find in a guided way.
-does not understand the guidelines, requirements and ethical principles of scientific writing.
-uses the SeAMK guidelines for written work to some extent in his/her texts.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student
-can specify his/her information needs and select appropriate sources of information.
-can use the collections and databases offered by the SeAMK library and other professional and research information sources.
-can interpret and evaluate the information they find and develop their search for information.
-produce scientific texts whose aim, purpose, structure, language, style and formatting broadly comply with the requirements and ethical principles of scientific texts.
-uses the SeAMK guidelines for written work in his/her texts with a fair degree of fluency.

The student
-can specify his/her information needs and select appropriate sources of information, justifying them.
-can use the collections and databases of the SeAMK library and other professional and research information sources in a versatile and critical way.
-can fluently interpret the information they find, critically evaluate it and develop their search for information.
-produce scientific texts with an objective, purpose, structure, language, style and formatting that fully respect the requirements and ethical principles of scientific texts.
-applies the SeAMK guidelines for written work independently and fluently.
