Objective
The students can evaluate and plan feeding of cattle taking into account animal productivity, health and welfare as well as effective use of resources. The students are able to take part in professional discussions on feeding
Content
Advanced studies of feed evaluation system and feed intake control of cattle, feeding in different phases of production cycle, feeding methods, environmental effects of cattle feeding, effects of feeding on animal welfare and health, current topics in cattle feeding
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The students can produce alternative feeding plans for different groups of cattle when advised. They are able to evaluate these plans satisfactorily.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The students can produce alternative feeding plans for different groups of cattle autonomously. They are able to recognise the effects of feeding on production, animal health, environment and expenses. They can justify which kind of feeding to choose in different situations
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The students can take into account and apply detailed facts of nutrition and production biology when planning feeding and production. They are able to search and apply information and give reasons for decisions independently. They can form a broad multidisciplinary view combining animal welfare and productivity, technology, effective use of resources and mutual impact of the different parts of production chain.
Further information
The students can partly direct their studies to some of different cattle groups (calves, growing cattle for replacement or meat, beef or dairy cows)
