Objective

Competence in the construction process.
The student knows the main features of the zoning process in Finland. The student understands the basic principles of land use planning and the possibilities of the society to guide construction through urban planning.
The student knows the different levels of urban planning in Finland and the steps of planning. The student is familiar with the fundaments of the legislation on urban planning.
The student is able to interpret plans and zoning ordinances from the perspective of construction. The student understands the possibilities of zoning ordinances to influence the site practices, finances and quality of construction.

- regional plan, master plan and town plan
- symbols on different plans
- zoning process and legislative definitions guiding it
- the possibilities of urban planning to guide construction
- land acquisition, site layout plan, street plans
- acknowledging sustainable development in urban planning

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student knows the different levels of urban planning and the basics of zoning process. The student is able to find information in a town plan for a construction process. The student is familiar with the basic principles of the distinctive features of urban planning and land use planning and their effect on construction projects.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student knows the different levels of urban planning and the zoning process. The student is able to find information in a town plan and apply it in different situations in working life and different construction projects. The student understands the effect of urban planning on the implementation of construction projects. The student knows the main features of the consequences of zoning ordinances in a construction project.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student knows the different levels of urban planning and the zoning process comprehensively. The student is able to find information on different plans, interpret plans and apply information from them in demanding situations in working life and construction projects. The student understands the effect of urban planning on the implementation of construction projects. The student knows the consequences of zoning ordinances in a construction project.
