Objective

The student can use some basics of German. He can use some basic vocabulary and structures both in spoken and written situations. The student can talk about himself, he can buy bus, etc. tickets, ask and explain directions, and make orders in a café. He can use greetings and polite phrases know numbers and can tell the time. The student is familiar with the German-speaking area, its customs, and culture.

The target level of the course is A1.1 on the skill level scale of the European reference framework.

Exam schedules

Two written exams during the course in the Exam room (audio and video surveillance)
The first exam in the middle of the course; the second at the end of the course. A spoken exam at the end of the course.

Co-operation with German speaking exchange students during the course.

Completion alternatives

Students can demonstrate their prior knowledge of the course contents to get the credit points.

Further information

Active participation in the contact lessons and on Moodle. The minimum attendance 50 %.
In addition to the exams, the student takes vocabulary tests and spoken and written exercises which are to be submitted according to the timetables.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student is able to communicate in some everyday communication situations when helped. The student makes mistakes in pronunciation. He understands some slow, clear speech and written texts to some extent. The student is able to write simple text, but mistakes impede comprehension.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is able to communicate independently in everyday communication situations. Mistakes do not impede comprehension. The pronunciation is mainly understandable. The student can understand the main points of slow speech and easy texts. The student is able to write mainly understandable texts. Mistakes don’t impede comprehension.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is capable of active, independent and understandable communication in everyday communication. The pronunciation is close to that of a native speaker. The student understands normal-rate speech and easy written texts. He can write understandable text, which may contain minor mistakes.

Assessment methods and criteria

Active participation in the contact lessons.
Two written exams and one spoken exam, vocabulary tests. Spoken and written exercises are to be submitted according to the timetables.
