Objective

The student gets acquainted with different aspects of an automation system and learns to utilize the possibilities offered by a modern automation system in machine and system control applications. In the course, the student learns about the activities of technology companies in the area and gets an idea of what kind of skills are needed in companies.

Content

The course provides a comprehensive introduction to the Beckhoff automation system and the TwinCAT programming environment. In addition to PLC and motion control functions, the course deals with the dimensioning of servo drive axes using the Motion Designer tool, the design of user interfaces and SCADA with TwinCAT HMI and TwinCAT PLC HMI software. In addition, the operation of the TwinCAT Vision machine vision system integrated in the control system and data collection using TwinCAT IoT and Analytics software, as well as the implementation of machine safety functions with the TwinSAFE system will be introduced.
The course is implemented in close co-operation with technology companies in the region, and during the course, companies present their activities and participate in the implementation of the course content, e.g. practical exercises.
