Objective

The student will learn clinical hand skills, clinical decision-making, ethics, multiculturalism. The student will support his/her own and peers’ professional skills by simulating and reflecting. ABCDE protocol, NEWS, ISBAR, targeted communication and support of the patient and his/her next-of-kin.

Content

Come to simulations that you will never forget. Every student who participates in this course will get one or more patient for a night shift, or he/she can be a patient actor. After the evening report, the patients are divided for the students, according to the credits students have completed. During the night shift, the student will learn clinical hand skills, clinical decision-making, ethics, multi-culture. In the night shift you will support your own and your peers’ professional skills by simulating and reflecting. Do you already know what is ABCDE protocol, what does the NEWS mean, can you report by using the ISBAR protocol and do you use targeted communication in acute situations, are you able to support the patient and his/her next-of-kin?

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Compulsory attendance: 1x 4 hours lessons and one 13 hours of night shift, independent study on Moodle and learner’s diary. Dates: Lessons Thursday 9th of May (afternoon), Night shift from Friday 24th to Saturday 25th of May from 19.00 to 8.00. The students who are taking part in this course are expected to act with absolute confidentiality as in all simulations.
