Open UAS Pathway Studies, Bachelor of Engineering, Construction Engineering: POLKURAK23
Code: POLKURAK23
Descriptions
This curriculum is for open UAS students. The curriculum includes first year studies and Basic Studies Common To All In SEAMK (Open UAS Path Studies, Bachelor of Engineering, Construction Engineering). There is also some personal study planning in the open university's path studies.
PROFILE OF THE PROGRAMME
Construction is a significant part of the essential functions of society. Finland's national wealth is based on the built environment. The society needs experts in modern building construction, economics, ecology and international activities to care for buildings and the environment.
OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES
Typical job positions for engineers having completed this programme include construction planning, production, management, import operations, and marketing in the field of construction. They may also work as entrepreneurs. Job titles include structural designer, financial planner, planning director, project manager, building inspector, developer, property manager or foreman.
PEDAGOGICAL APPROACH
The working world and expertise demand that employees have advanced skills in information acquisition and processing, problem-solving, the ability to collaborate with others and to always be open to new learning situations, as well as the ability to combine various types of information and various disciplines with practical work. This means that students must understand what they are taught. For this reason, teaching in the Degree Programme in Construction Engineering emphasises the constructivist theory of learning where the students' active role and world of experience form a significant part of the education. It is the teacher's duty to facilitate learning and coordinate studies.
A variety of teaching methods are used in the programme to support students' professional development, readiness for the working world and professional expertise. Students work in small groups, listen to lectures by experts, work in the laboratory, visit various companies, do assignments and have practical training.
Development
We co-operate with companies to update our study programme.
Objective
Construction engineering studies provide a formal qualification for working in managerial and structural planning tasks in construction projects in compliance with the Land Use and Building Act. The curriculum has been made in cooperation with the operators of the field and by paying attention to the requirements of the formal qualification.
