Objective

The student will learn to encounter drug and alcohol addiction clients in various nursing settings. The student will gain deeper insight into the causes and consequences related to the use of drugs and alcohol.

Content

Theory and preparation for simulations on Moodle, during the contact lessons the focus is on simulation.
Topics:
1x4h Encountering under-aged abusers of drugs or alcohol – multiprofessional collaboration between nursing and social work
1x4t How to take up the problem and Motivating interview – referring working age clients to care
1x4t Home care clients as abusers of drugs or alcohol – Addiction in aged people and how to address it
1x4t Enough is enough – Encountering intoxicated clients at the alcohol clinic. The nurse as a support, helping the client quit
1x2t Reflection and discussion on the nurse’s coping

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Pass/ Fail
In order to pass this course the student must:
- prepare for the simulations
- participate actively
- give peer feedback during the simulations.
