Statics for Construction Site ManagersLaajuus (4 cr)
Code: 8H00CK40
Objective
Competence in structural engineering
Students know the two basic concepts of statics, the force and the momentum. The know how to draw free body diagrams and how to form equilibrium equations by means of free body diagrams. They are able to utilise the free body diagrams and equilibrium equations to determine support reactions and internal forces of simple bar structures. Students can make a difference between statically determined and indetermined bar structures.
Competence in Construction Production
Student is able to recognize different kind of bar systems: beams, trusses and frames.
Content
- Force, components of force and force resultants
- Momentum and force couple
- Free body diagram
- Equilibrium equations
- Calculation model for bar structures
- Supporting bars, symbols used and support reactions
- Statically determined bar structures
- Member forces of truss structures
- Internal forces of beams: normal force, shear force and bending moment
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student is able to use the balance equations for beams and to solve the reactions of abutment of a simply stressed double-supported beam and of a cantilever as well as to draw normal force, tangential force and bending moment diagrams. They are able to solve the member forces of a simple truss structure.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student is able to solve the reactions of abutment and bending moment diagrams of a complexly stressed beam . They are able to solve the member forces of a complex truss structure.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student is able to solve internal forces of complex beam and truss structures and to solve static equilibrium problems also in non-standard situations.
