Understands the main turning points of library history. Especially the development of the Finnish libraries is in focus. The student understands how the Finnish library system changed during the 20th century and which the factors that influenced its development are.

Content

The history of libraries from ancient times to our days. Both Finnish libraries and libraries in other countries are dealt with.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Student knows the basics of library history and knows the main events of different era in the library events.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Student understands the causal factors of different events in library development through the centuries and their influence to the modern libraries.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Student understands the causal factors of different events in library development through the centuries and their influence to the modern libraries. Student can also analyze critically different historical periods and their interaction.
