Objective

The student is able to use Excel, especially for various quantitative studies. The student learns to calculate different statistical indicators for the whole material and different groups. He/she is able to produce distributions of variables in tables and graphs. He/she learns to create cross-tabulations. The student is able to filter the data to get the desired summary of the variables. (He/she knows how to use Excel's Pivot function.) He/she gets an idea of the relationships of variables and how to look at their dependencies. He/she gets the basics in statistical testing.

Content

Excel basics, key figures and statistical concepts, one-dimensional distributions, two-dimensional distributions and statistical tests. (Everything is based on doing tasks)

Materials

Opettajan oma materiaali Moodlessa. Opiskelija voinee perehtyä Excelistä kertovaan kirjallisuuteen.

Teaching methods

Kurssi on virtuaalinen. Opiskelija lukee Moodlesta asiaan liittyvän pienehkön teorian ja katsoo Moodle -videoista Excelin käyttötapoja ja periaatteita.
Näiden jälkeen hän tekee Moodlen anntettuja tehtäviä Excelillä ja palauttaa ne Moodlen palautuskansioihin.

Opiskelijan kuormitus kurssin aihealueineen:

Excel -ohjelma (ja muu alustus): 5 h
Tunnusluvut ja käsitteet: 10 h
Yksiulotteiset jakaumat: 15 h
Kaksiulotteiset jakaumat: 20 h
Testit: 25 h

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student has passed the Excel tasks successfully, but she/he needs guidance to solve the tasks on time and completed correctly.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student has demonstrated mastery of Excel by completing tasks in a timely and careful manner.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has demonstrated mastery of Excel by performing tasks independently and accurately. She/he knows how to apply Excel in many ways.
