Objective
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
Define what health literacy means and identify the factors that influence it.
Explain how an organization promotes health literacy and suggest ways to enhance it.
Identify known factors and actions that promote brain health.
Explain the connection between health literacy and brain health.
Critically assess the comprehensibility, reliability, and usability of written, oral, and online information related to brain health and memory services.
Apply communication methods that support health literacy to enhance the understanding and utilization of information.
Utilize principles of effective communication methods in lifestyle guidance that promotes brain health.
Use evidence-based information to implement brain health-promoting practices and to plan, execute, and develop person-centered memory services.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student defines health literacy mechanically and identifies a few factors that influence it. The student's understanding emphasizes health literacy more at the individual level than at the organizational level. The student describes organizational means to support health literacy minimally. The student recognizes some of the most well-known factors and actions that promote brain health. The student explains the connection between health literacy and brain health at a general level. The student evaluates the comprehensibility, reliability, and usability of written, oral, and online information at a basic level. The student applies interaction methods that support and have been proven effective in lifestyle counseling for health literacy minimally. The student utilizes research data in a limited way, using available Finnish-language information in the implementation of practices that promote brain health and in the development of memory services.

The student clearly defines health literacy and identifies several factors that influence it. The student explains the significance of the organization in health literacy and presents some concrete means to promote it. The student defines several well-known factors and actions that promote brain health and explains the connection between health literacy and brain health. The student is able to critically evaluate the comprehensibility, reliability, and usability of written, oral, and online information and partially utilizes this evaluation in his/her choices and decisions.. The student effectively applies interaction methods that support and have been proven effective in lifestyle counseling for health literacy. The student also utilizes some international research data in the implementation of practices that promote brain health and in the development of memory services.

The student explains the significance of the organization in health literacy in depth and presents innovative means to promote it. The student comprehensively defines the well-known factors and actions that promote brain health and thoughtfully considers the connection between health literacy and brain health. The student critically evaluates the comprehensibility, reliability, and usability of written, oral, and online information and makes well-founded choices and decisions based on this evaluation. The student applies interaction methods that support and have been proven effective in lifestyle counseling for health literacy insightfully and diversely. The student also utilizes international research data excellently and broadly in the implementation of practices that promote brain health and in the development of memory services.
