DESCRIPTION AND COMPETENCE AREAS OF THE DEGREE PROGRAMME:
The Degree Programme for Cultural Managers (Master’s level) prepares experts in and innovators of creative economy, who are able to recognize targets for development in their field and to plan and manage processes of change. The student develops their competencies in applying business knowledge to creative economy and cultural services and combining these with an entrepreneurial, sustainable and international mindset. The entrepreneurial way of action is an ability to make decisions and anticipate changes in a flexible and creative way. The aim of the studies is to develop an understanding of the operational environments of especially creative economy and to seek sustainable business solutions to cultural and creative businesses.

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCY PROFILE:
A graduate with a Master’s Degree can perform duties in planning and management, as a manager of development projects and as an independent entrepreneur with the sufficient business competencies. The Degree qualifies the student for professional duties requiring a Master’s Degree.

PEDAGOGIC MODELS FOR ACTION:
Multimodal learning methods are used in the studies, which include both contact and online teaching and independent studying and assignments. Studies include development tasks, which are conneted to the student's work context. Multimodal teaching includes 2-4 contact days per month, primarily on Friday afternoons and Saturdays. Multimodal teaching includes both contact and online sessions. The studies emphasize both independent study and assignments completed as distant learning. During the studies, students build up their network of expertise and learn to operate within interdisciplinary learning projects as well. A working life-based development project is an essential part of the studies.

Objective

The goal of the studies is to learn to plan, develop and manage activities and operations at cultural and creative fields. The student learns to recognize changes within business environment and learn to apply various methods, models and processes for organizational and service development, such as service design, foresight methods and development of competitive tools. The student learns to assess the potential markets of cultural services as well as to analyze the value added of entrepreneurship and business development.
