Students know the functions and operating principles of the most central institutions of Finnish society. They understand how citizen's constitutional rights affect their future work. Students are familiar with the history of Finnish society and social policy. They understand history through older people’s experience and are able to discuss historical events. Students know how to counsel clients on the most relevant questions connected to social legislation and social security.

Students know the most important features of social welfare legislation and social security. They are able to participate in discussion on social security.

Students are familiar with central features of Finnish society and social policy, and they are able to examine connections between various phenomena. Students understand how Finnish society and its central institutions function. They are able to counsel clients on issues pertaining to social welfare legislation and social security.

Students are able to critically examine themes pertaining to social policy and to the development of Finnish society. They know how to relate individual phenomena to a social context. Students are able to critically evaluate the situation of the Finnish welfare state. They are able to counsel clients on issues pertaining to social welfare legislation and social security.
