Timber Structures 2Laajuus (5 cr)

Code: RAK2J2

Objective

Competence in the construction process
Students can use computer programmes in the dimensioning of wooden structures.

Competence in structural engineering
Upon completion of the course, students are able to design independently joints in wooden structures that are assembled with mechanic fasteners. They understand the principles behind the dimensioning of heavy-duty wooden structures. The course is part of the theoretical training required of A-level structural designers.

Content

- Joints in wooden structures
- Joints assembled with mechanical couplers: connections with nails, screws, bolts, and dowels
- Dimensioning punched metal plate fastener joints
- Heavy-duty wooden structures
- Bracing of timber structures
- Utilising software in dimensioning joints
- Laboratory work
