Curricula
Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences offers education leading to bachelor's and master's degrees from universities of applied sciences, as well as specialization training and other educational programs. The curriculum includes descriptions of the studies in various degree programs.
The objectives, content, and assessment criteria of the study modules included in a degree program are presented in the curriculum. The same study module may be part of the curriculum for different student groups and can be offered multiple times a year, meaning there are several implementations. All implementations of the same study module are visible in the curriculum. While the objectives, content, and assessment criteria remain the same across different implementations of the same module, aspects such as the language of instruction, teaching methods, assessment methods, and literature may vary.
The teacher of a study module plans its implementation before the teaching begins. At that point, the descriptions of the study modules are supplemented with the teaching and learning methods to be used, study materials, and assessment methods. Therefore, the content that remains the same across implementations is always described, while content that may change from one academic year to another is detailed in the implementation description. If there are new study modules in the curriculum that have not been previously offered, there will be no implementation details available until the teacher has completed the implementation planning phase.
SeAMK’s curricula are competence-based. In competence-based curricula, the learning objectives and outcomes of the degree and its studies are defined and described also through competencies. Learning objectives specify the skills and knowledge expected from the student. Learning outcomes describe what the student knows, understands, and is able to do as a result of the learning process. The curriculum content is reviewed annually. Each student group starting in a given academic year has its own curriculum, and the study guide displays the curriculum of the most recent student group. Previous years’ curricula, their studies, and study module implementations can be accessed from the archive.
