Objective
The law pertaining to studies at the university of applied sciences level (352/2003)states that students are required to sit a Maturity Test to receive their univerity of applied sciences degree. Students write about a topic related to the thesis, which indicates their knowledge of the topic and of Finnish or Swedish language. If a student has received their education in a language other than Finnish or Swedish, the head of the degree program may allow the student to take the Maturity Test in another language.
Content
Students must demonstrate that they master the content of their thesis and produce a clear and consistent written presentation.

The student writes the maturity test according to the guidelines of Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed
1. The writing must adhere to the assignment and the text type specified in the assignment.
2. The writing must have a title. The title and content must correspond to each other. Subheadings are not used.
3. The text should be written in such a way that it can be understood as an independent whole without source references.
4. The recommended length of the text is 400–600 words.
5. The text must be readable. Upper and lower case letters and word boundaries must be distinguishable.
6. The language is evaluated from the following perspectives:
- **Structure**:
- The writing must be a controlled, logical, and coherent whole with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion.
- Paragraph divisions must be clearly distinguishable.
- **Clarity and Understandability**:
- The presented arguments and their justifications must be clear and logical.
- Professional terms must be correctly defined, and word choices must be precise.
- Sentence structure must be fluent.
- **Style**:
- The text must be in a scientific formal style.
- There must be no errors in language or spelling that hinder understandability.
7. The maturity test can be failed if there are significant, recurring, or comprehension-impairing issues in either the content or any of the aforementioned areas.
