Objective

The student
- knows how to work in multi-professional mental health, crisis and substance abuse nursing, taking into account the patient's age, growth and development stage, as well as the requirements of different treatment and service environments and ethics.
-can assess the resources of different patients and their next-of-kin.
-can assess the need for treatment in a controlled manner, plan, implement and evaluate the nursing of patients of different ages and their next-of-kin in mental health, crisis and substance abuse treatment.
- can take care of mental health and substance abuse patients of different ages and their next-of-kin and support them in crisis situations using evidence-based methods of nursing, supporting and guidance used in mental health, crisis and substance abuse treatment.
-knows how to support and promote the health of mental health and substance abuse patients of different ages and their next-of-kin, their functional capacity and self-care from the starting points of recovery orientation.

Health promotion, supporting self-care and rehabilitation in mental health nursing and addiction nursing.
Positive mental health.
Essential nursing interventions in mental health nursing and addiction nursing. Recovery.
The national documentation model.
The impact of the client's age, sex, cultural background, growth and development stage and the impact of the care or service environment and ethicality on mental health nursing and addiction nursing.
Nursing, rehabilitation and counselling for mental health problems and alcohol and drug addictions.
Nursing, rehabilitation and counselling of patients and families in crisis.
Drug care and drug calculations.
Multi-professionalism in mental nursing and addiction nursing.
Self-care counselling for mental health patients, patients with addictions and their next-of-kin.

Teaching methods

Lessons, independent studies, online studies, skills labs/simulations.

Exam schedules

Exam which consists of a theory test and esseys, and a OSVE-test based on patient situations.

Completion alternatives

There is a Moodle course covering the theory part. It contains video lessons, other material and independent assignments. If a student does the Moodle course, he/she has to participate in simulations, OSVE-test and exam with a group decided with the teacher,

Further information

Skills labs and simulations and OSVE are compulsory. The student must do those with another group, if she/ he misses the classes.
