Objective
Competence in the construction process
Students understand the role of geotechnics and foundation engineering as part of a construction project, and take into consideration their effect on the total cost of the project.
Competence in structural engineering
Students have basic knowledge of the formation of the soil and bedrock, of the composition of the various types of soil and of their suitability as a foundation for construction. They have basic knowledge of foundations built on soil and rock and of the relevant work methods.
Students know the most important regulations and instructions on foundation construction. They have basic knowledge of foundations built on soil and rock, of piling and of the relevant work methods.
Students know how to seek information independently to develop their quality management competence.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student knows the basic things about the formation of the soil and bedrock as well as the composition of soil. The student knows the applicability of different types of soil as a building ground and understands its importance in a construction project.
The student knows the key regulations and instructions regulating foundation engineering. The student knows the importance of ground surveys in foundation engineering and the related basic things. The student knows the importance of frost protection and drying at the different stages of a construction project.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student knows the bearing strength, stability and contraction of soil and understands its importance in construction. The student is able to pay attention to soil pressure and its requirements.
The student is able to choose the mode of foundation according to the conditions and to take their requirements into account. The student can read and pay attention to the cabling and pipe maps of the area.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
In addition to the abilities above, the student has a good command of what they have learned and is able to apply it. They can also analyze the connections between different things. The student can make diversified analyses and draw conclusions based on what they have learned.
The student masters well what they have learned and is able to apply it. They can also analyze the connections between different things. The student is able to make diversified analyses and draw conclusions based on what they have learned.
Assessment methods and criteria
For the interim tests and the assignments, the assessment scale in 1-5, for the laboratory work pass/fail. The tests account for 80 % and the assignments for 20 % of the final grade. Int the tests, students must pass 40 % of the maximum.
Qualifications
