Objective

The student is able to form free-body diagrams of a particle and a ridig body, form equilibrium equations from them and solve for unknown support reactions. The student is able to determine the normal forces, shear forces and bending moment of a beam. The student is able to take into account the effects of friction in static structures and determine the location of the center of gravity of a body. Student masters the use of technical aids in solving statics problems.

Content

-particle equilibrium
-moment of force
-equilibrium of a ridig body

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Satisfactory grade (1 – 2)

The student is able to calculate the support reactions in the equilibrium state of a particle. They can calculate the moment of force. They can calculate the support reactions on a horizontal beam in the equilibrium situation of a ridig body.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good grade (3 – 4)

In addition to satisfactory knowledge, student is able to calculate the location of the center of gravity of an object and take the effects of friction into account. They can calculate the shear force and bending moment of a horizontal beam and draw their graphs in the case of point forces.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent grade (5)

In addition to satisfactory and good knowledge, the student is able to accurately draw shear force and bending moment graphs in the case of a continuous load. They knows how to use vectors in situations requiring 3D statics and masters forces in trusses calculating.
