Objective

The student is familiar with the key approaches to ethics. The student can describe how ethics connect to business operations. The student is familiar with basics of rational egoism and can apply them. The student can analyse his/her ethical choices and give reasoned arguments in defense of them. The student can independently analyse his / her moral code.

Materials

The course is based on Woiceshyn, J. 2013. Tulos ja moraali: eettinen tie menestykseen. Kauppakamari.
The book is highly recommended but not mandatory for completing the course. Other materials announced on the course.

Student workload

Student workload is approx. 80 hours and consists entirely of independent work. Discussion assignment can be carried out either within the course or independently, according to student's choice.

The student has carried out the given assignments. The student recognises most of the discussed concepts relating to ethics and applies these concepts mostly correctly. The student's output demonstrates the ability to analyse and argue for ethical choices and the ability to analyse his / her moral code.

The student has completed the assignments thoroughly. The student recognises almost all of the discussed concepts relating to ethics and applies these concepts correctly. The student's output demonstrates the ability to analyse and argue for ethical choices with insight and ethical sensitivity. The student's output demonstrates the ability to think deeply about one's own moral code.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has carried out the given assignments thoroughly and with care. The student recognizes almost all of the discussed concepts relating to ethics and applies these concepts with excellent judgment. The student's output demonstrates the ability to analyse and argue for ethical choices with an ethical sensitivity and multiple perspectives. The student's output demonstrates the ability to independently, critically and in-depth analyze his / her moral code .
