Objective

The student
-is able to understand his / her professional responsibility for securing and promoting the safety of patients receiving drug and fluid care.
-is able to plan, implement and evaluate safe drug and fluid care for various diseases.
-based on a doctor's instructions, the student is able to plan, implement and evaluate intravenous drug and fluid care and blood transfusions for patients of all ages.
-is able to plan, implement and evaluate safe drug and fluid care for different patient groups and for special treatments.
-is able to observe side and combined effects of medicines and to evaluate the effectiveness of drug care.
-is able to calculate medication calculations correctly and administer the correct dose to the patient.
-takes into account the principles of sustainable development in drug care

Content

Fluid balance, IV-medicine and fluid therapy. Blood transfusion. Peripheral IV -cannulation. Drug and fluid care in special cases (CVK, venous port, IO).
Preparation and administering a safe dose of iv-medicine.
Asepsis
Monitoring the effects of drugs. Side and combined effects of medicines.

-is able to solve common tasks and problems related to safe drug and fluid care.
-can observe the safety and ethical principles defined for drug and fluid care implemented by registered nurses/public health nurses.

-can evaluate his/her strengths and development needs for professional development.
-knows the principles of sustainable development in drug care

-can consistently use the knowledge foundation on safe drug and fluid care.
-can use evidence-based knowledge of safe drug and fluid care.
-applies his/her knowledge of professional, safe drug and fluid care to various situations, within the scope of responsibility as a registered nurse/public health nurse.
-is able to behave in a client-centered and responsible manner in implementing safe drug and fluid care.
-knows how to take correct action when implementing safe drug and fluid care in various settings, within the scope of responsibility as a registered nurse/public health nurse.
-explains his/her actions in drug and fluid care using the ethical principles for registered nurses/public health nurses, and evaluates the safety of the drug and fluid care implemented.
-is capable of purposeful action in teams implementing safe drug and fluid care within the registered nurses'/public health nurses' scope of responsibility.

-approach to safe drug and fluid care is not adequately client-centered.
