Objective

The student
- can introduce himself/herself and describe his/her education in the Swedish language.
- can interview and present a patient's life situation and condition.
- can use nursing vocabulary to describe health and illness and patient`s situation.
- is able to counsel and to give instructions to patients in common nursing situations.

x Assessment is based on academic criteria for oral proficiency.

Content

Nursing vocabulary in Swedish.
Reading different types of texts, writing tasks and practising interaction situations in the Swedish language.
Health promotion, some common diseases and patient encounters in different nursing tasks.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1-2:
The student (`s)
- uses simple structures and limited vocabulary and his/her mistakes make it difficult to understand.
- understands slow and clear speech and relatively easy field-related texts.
- manages predictable working life situations.
- pronunciation is clearly influenced by other languages.

3-4:

- has a satisfactory command of grammatical structures and professional vocabulary.

Fail:
The student does not achieve the learning outcomes described above.

Qualifications

Prerequisites:
Knowledge of basic general vocabulary and key structures.
Previous Swedish language study at secondary level is required.

Attendance 50%
The target level of the course is B1.
Additional information: The course exam is supervised.

The course includes the completion of the so-called official Swedish (official Swedish = oral and written proficiency in Swedish for civil servants). Written and oral language skills are assessed separately. Grades 1-3 correspond to a verbal grade of satisfactory and grades 4-5 to a verbal grade of good in the assessment of language skills required by Law 424/2003.
