Objective
The student is aware of the background of various phenomena in society. The student is able to describe the background of social problems, health sociology and social change. He/she can promote his/her interaction skills by focusing on the history of the clients' life course. The student can take part in discussion about society and he/she is able to seek information about how to influence decision-making in society. As part of his/her nursing competence, the student is familiar with the social security system.
The student is able to describe the social and health services and the service provision and delivery systems in Finland. The student is familiar with the most important Acts and Decrees that govern the provision of social and health services in Finland.

Social problems and abnormal behaviour, health sociology, social change, the development of Finnish society from early 1900's until today, the welfare society, the social security system in Finland

- attends lectures and demonstrate understanding of central themes
- is able to discuss the most important perspectives in a relevant manner
- knows the main parts of the Finnish social security system and has adequate knowledge to be able to work in nursing duties
- knows the central health care and social services and the regulations and laws

- has understood the themes included in the study material and is able to produce opinions on related problems
- is able to produce interpretations indicative of social imagination
- knows the main parts of the Finnish social security system and is able to produce justified opinions on related problems
- has understood the system of the health care and social services as a part of Finnish society

- is able to critically discuss the themes included in study material
- is able to produce justified opinions and interpretations of the themes and look at issues in their social context
- knows how to counsel clients on social security issues
