Objective

Competence in structural engineering
The objective of the studies is to reinforce students’ competence in construction and develop their skills in combining theory with practice. Students are able to design load-bearing structures of a timber-framed house and draw up drawings of the structures.

Competence in the construction process
Students know the nature of project work, the basics of project planning and work, and the concepts related to the project.

Students will be able to independently acquire knowledge that develops communication and interpersonal skills.

Content

Structural design of a timber framed one-family house

- creating structural designs with CAD programme

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students know the basics of structural design. Students know the importance of CAD design as part of construction and understand its meaning in a construction project. Students know the key rules and regulations and instructions on structural design. Students are familiar with the meaning of structural design in the process of construction and the basics related to them. Students know the meaning of occupational safety in the different phases of structural design.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students know the requirements regulating structural design and understand their meaning in construction. Students are able to take into consideration the perspective of construction sites and their requirements.
Students are able to choose parts according to the construction materials and take into account their requirements. Students are able to allow for the requirements by the customer.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the abilities above, students know well and are able to apply the subjects learned. They can also analyze the associations between matters. Students are able to make versatile decisions and draw conclusions based on the subjects learned.
