Objective

Students will recognize the meaning of community and client communication for professional communication. They will be able to communicate professionally and understandably, taking into consideration the conditions set by the communicative situation. They will learn ways of influence others in oral communication situations. Students will appreciate cultural aspects of communication and learn to work together with people from other cultures. Students will have means to improve their communication skills further.

Content

-General professional communication skills: listening, dialogue, addressing a meeting, justifying opinions, argumentation, influencing others, orienting others
-Conversations: brief meetings, negotiations, meetings, appraisal interviews, debates
Client communication skills: language for advising and counselling, language development, speech physiology, speech and voice disorders, supportive and compensatory speech strategies
Communication in communities: objectives and tasks, planning of communication, communication for management and leadership

Kontaktiopetus, yksilö- ja ryhmäharjoitukset. Vuorovaikutustilanteen havainnointi ja sen raportointi kirjallisesti. Palautekeskustelut.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Grade 1-2:
Students recognise some features of community and client communication. They approach communicative situations from the sender perspective and their contribution is scarce.
Grade 3-4:
In community and client communication, students understand the contents and meaning of the message from both sender and receiver perspectives. They recognise some features of various types of oral communication and contribute to oral communication situations. They make use of external and internal communication. In client work, they use empowering language registers and language for advice and counselling.
Grade 5:
Students are competent in all kinds of community and client communication. They evaluate and develop interaction and the communication environment. They take active part in oral communication, paying attention to the requirements of the interaction situation. Students have command over client communication tools for various target groups.

Qualifications

No previous studies are required.
