Objective
You will learn how to plan, write and edit different work related texts suitable for different audiences and situations. You will learn how to use artificial intelligence to support the development of writing and writing skills.
Students will be able to
- apply knowledge of writing and language when writing their own texts
- plan, structure and edit their text according to the objective, target audience and situation
- refine the language and style of a text and apply the most important grammatical and linguistic practices of the Finnish language

- justify, reflect on and evaluate choices made during the writing process
- use artificial intelligence ethically at different stages of the writing process and improve their own writing skills
- reflect on and evaluate the possibilities and ways of using AI in different writing processes and their different stages.
Execution methods
Opintojakso suoritetaan verkossa Moodle-oppimisympäristössä. Opintojakso edellyttää itsenäistä työskentelyä sekä aikaan sidottua pari- ja ryhmätyöskentelyä verkossa. Opiskelija perehtyy teoria-aineistoon, tekee verkkotehtävät ja arvioitavat työt annettujen ohjeiden ja aikataulujen mukaisesti.

Location and time
The course start message will be sent to the email addresses of students accepted into the course during week 23.
The studies allow for completion according to your own schedule, but the study includes scheduled online peer review 17.–24.7.2025.
Materials
Teacher's material on Moodle
Studying requires the use of a webcam, microphone, and Microsoft Copilot or a similar conversational AI application. The workversion of Copilot is available to SEAMK students with a SEAMK email address.
Teaching methods
The study is conducted online in the Moodle learning environment. The study is carried out independently at your own pace during the implementation period but the study includes scheduled online peer review.
The student familiarizes themselves with the theoretical material nad completes online assignments according to the given instructions and timetable. The study requires independent work and scheduling.

The workload of the study is designed so that one credit corresponds to an average of 27 hours of student work to achieve the learning objectives. The actual time required varies individually, e.g., due to prior knowledge.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
Pass:
The student actively participates in the course exercises and completes the required tasks successfully. The student can articulate their understanding of writing skills and reflect on them. They can plan, structure, and edit their text according to its purpose, target audience, and context, choosing appropriate language and style. The student can ethically use AI as a tool in various stages of the writing process, such as developing content, structure, language, and style. They can justify, contemplate, and evaluate the choices made during the writing process and improve their text based on feedback. The student demonstrates the ability to critically consider and evaluate the use of AI in writing.
Fail:
The student participates sporadically in the course exercises and does not complete the required tasks successfully. They cannot reflect on their writing skills or justify, contemplate, and evaluate the choices made during writing. The student inadequately manages the stages of the writing process and does not demonstrate the ability to plan, structure, and edit their text according to its purpose, target audience, and context. The student does not use AI ethically to support writing and thinking but uses it unethically and detrimentally to writing skill development, for example, by submitting entirely AI-generated texts as their own work. The student does not demonstrate the ability to critically consider and evaluate the use of AI in writing.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
Pass
The student participates in the course exercises and completes the required assignments. The student participates actively in the course and completes the tasks required with a passing grade. Students will be able to articulate their understanding of writing skills and reflect on their writing skills. The student will be able to plan, structure and edit their text according to its purpose, to the target audience and the situation, and to choose the appropriate language and style. They will be able to use AI as an ethical tool in the different stages of the writing process
developing the content, structure, language and style of the text. Student can justify, reflect on and evaluate choices made during the writing process, and develop their text on the basis of feedback. The student can demonstrates the ability to reflect and critically evaluate the use of artificial intelligence in writing.
Fail
The student does not participate in the course exercises and does not complete the required tasks. The student will occasionally fail to perform the tasks required in the course of the assignment. The student is unable to reflect on their own writing skills and is unable to justify their work, The student does not reflect on their writing skills and does not justify, reflect on and evaluate their writing choices. The student does not demonstrate the ability to plan, structure and evaluate the writing process. The student does not use AI ethically to support writing and thinking. The student submits text entirely produced by the AI. The student does not demonstrate the ability to reflect and evaluate critically evaluate the use of AI in writing.
Qualifications
No previous studies are required.
Further information
The course requires not only independent work but also online discussions in Moodle. The course includes a time-bound peer feedback assignment online 17.–24.7.2025. The course cannot be completed entirely with AI-generated submissions. The use of AI must be clearly indicated according to the instructions provided in the course.
