Objective

The studies increase students' skills making different plant production plans. The student will be familiar with the categorisation of plant diseases and pests as well as the factors influencing the development/growth and life cycle of them. Students will be competent in identifying plant diseases and pests and choosing an appropriate plant protection method. The student is, also, able to plan machinery systems for cereal/grass production.

Students will be familiar with the impact the climate in Finland has on the need to drain soils and irrigate crops. They will also be familiar with various drainage and irrigation methods and their use. The student can make nutrient balance calculations. They can also utilise related research outcomes.

Content

- Purchase of farm-specific basic material.
- Crop rotation
- Questions related to the organization of water management, drainage and irrigation of farm fields.
- Diseases and pests by plant species, pest and pest control methods.
- Nutritional balances, their analysis and development.
- Fruit cultivation and its development.
- The student prepares a farm development plan including bookkeeping
- Designing technology solutions, for example
- Crop Planning Program and its use

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student knows drainage and irrigation methods and can make crop protection plans and cultivation and production plans if he is guided. The student will find means which can be used to improve the nutrient balance and crop production of the farm.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student knows the importance of drainage and irrigation and can make a cultivation plan, and crop protection plan and calculate the field balance sheets of the farm. The student explains how different factors affect the balance sheets of the state and to the making of the cultivation plan. The student analyses and interprets the cultivation of the farm and the factors which affect it.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

. The student justifies the importance of drainage and irrigation and can make a cultivation plan, crop protection plan and calculate the field balance sheets of the farm. The student thinks and justifies factors which affect the balance sheets and cultivation plan. The student analyses the cultivation of the state and presents the concrete developing measures of the state
