Objective
The student:
- understands the perioperative process and knows the roles of the perioperative and surgical nurses.
- is capable of working in a multi-professional team, and is able to consider the patient's individuality.
- can search evidence-based knowledge and use it in planning, implementing, and evaluating surgical and perioperative patients’ care.
- can prepare the patient for different surgical procedures.
- can act aseptically at different stages of perioperative and surgical patients’ care.
- knows basic anesthesia methods and basic drugs and fluids used in intraoperative care.
- recognizes most typical instruments and surgical methods.
- knows the use of equipment in theatres and recovery room and understands the importance of patient safety in perioperative care.
- knows how to assess, monitor and act according to the patients condition during the postoperative phase.
- is competent in common nursing interventions and diagnostic examinations used as part of surgical nursing.
- knows how to support and promote surgical and perioperative patients' and their next-of-kin's health, self-care, rehabilitation, and ability to function.
