Objective

The student
*is able to plan, implement, and evaluate the monitoring and support of child growth and development in cooperation with the clients.
*is able to support the child and family towards health promoting choices.
*is able to support parenting, the relationship between spouses, and the family life with children.
*is able to recognize the challenges regarding the health of the child and family, as well as to provide counseling on these matters.
*is able to work multidisciplinarily for the child and family, as well as evaluate the need for special support and follow-up treatment.
*is able to work in cooperation with families and different stakeholders to promote the safe growth and development environment.

Content

Activities in health child clinic and the service network for the families with children.
The acts and recommendations concerning health child clinic.
Health examinations in health child clinic.
Health screening and evaluation methods for children’s health as well as health, growth, and development promotion for the children in different ages.
Supporting parenting and the relationship between spouses, the health and well-being of parents and family.
Recognizing and counseling within the challenges of child growth, development, and health.
Early recognition of need for special support and examinations, multisectoral cooperation and guidance to follow-up treatments.
Safe environment for growing.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student
- demonstrates and manages the basic knowledge of the different aspects of public health care work.
- seeks information and justifies the use of data sources in health care work.
- is capable of independent decision-making in different situations and operating environments in health care.
- operates in a client-oriented and client-friendly manner in health care.
- is able to guide individual clients and their families in public health care.
- works safely and in accordance with the principles of professional ethics of the public health nurse.
- works as a health care expert in multidisciplinary groups.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student
- demonstrates management of the knowledge base of different areas of public health care and applies information widely in health care.
- is capable of independent decision-making in different public health care situations and environments.
- operates in a client-oriented, responsible, and safe manner in public health care.
- is able to listen, support, and guide clients and their families appropriately when meeting them in health care.
- works safely as a public health nurse and in accordance with the principles of professional ethics.
- evaluates and critically uses evidence-based information for health care development.
- works as a health care expert in multidisciplinary groups and multi-professional communities.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student
- demonstrates wide-ranging management of the knowledge base of various areas of health care and expertly applies it in health care.
- is capable of independent decision-making in different health care situations and environments.
- works according to the needs of the client and his/her family in a responsible and safe way in public health care.
- is able to listen, support, and guide the client and his family appropriately in public health care.
- independently searches for evidence-based information, uses it and assesses it critically in health care and its development.
- is able to develop himself/herself and health-care activities in accordance with the principles of professional ethics and safety.
- develops activities as a health care expert in multidisciplinary groups and projects.

Fail
The student
- demonstrates inadequate management of basic information on the various aspects of health care and their application in nursing care.
- insufficiently justifies his/her activities in health care.
- is not able to operate in a client-oriented and client-friendly manner in health care.
- has inadequate decision skills in health care.
- does not take adequate account of ethical principles in the field of health care.
