Objective

Knowledge of the construction process: the student knows the basics of fire design of timber and steel structures.

Knowledge of structural design: The student will be able to design conventional non-protected and protected timber structures according to the Eurocodes. The student will be able to determine the temperature of a steel structure in both non-fireproof and fireproof condition. The student will be able to carry out the fire design of conventional steel structures according to the Eurocodes.

Content

Timber structures (1op):
- Basics of fire design of timber structures - Fire design of timber beams and columns in non-fireproofed and fireproofed condition.
- Basics of fire design of joints

Steel structures (1op):
- Standard fire curve
- Temperature of a steel structure in fire
- Temperature of a steel structure in flame-retardant condition
- Effect of temperature on the strength and modulus of elasticity of steel
- Cross-sectional class in fire
- Resistance of steel structures to fire taking into account stability and interaction conditions

Qualifications

Timber structures 1. Steel structures 1

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students will be able to use the fire design guidelines for timber and steel structures taught in the course in simple basic cases.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students can apply the fire design guidelines for timber and steel structures taught in the course to common design situations.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students will be able to apply the fire design guidelines for timber and steel structures taught in the course in different cases. Students will be able to determine the temperature of a steel structure in a fire situation.

Materials

Fire part of the Eurocodes for wood and steel structures. Teachers' own material.
