Objective
Students will complete a final thesis on a topic associated with rural industries such that the work supports their professional specialisation in the best possible way. The purpose of the thesis is to give students the opportunity to apply their knowledge of solving problems in the working world using existing information and research results and doing practical research themselves
Content
Students will present their thesis work both in writing and as an oral presentation and in so doing will indicate they are capable of presenting information clearly and consistently. Students are required to present their thesis plan(s) at least 10 weeks before the thesis deadline.
Maturity Test: According to Section 10 of the law pertaining to universitites of applied sciences (No. 256/1995), students who wish to complete a degree at the university of applied sciences level must complete a Maturity Test. The test is an integral part of the thesis and it is written on a topic pertaining to the thesis. The Maturity Test allows students to validate their knowledge of their chosen professional field and to show they are competent in the Finnish or Swedish languages. Thesis advisors provide students with two topics (titles), one of which they choose to write about. Students must indicate they are able to express themselves clearly using academic-style language and terminology associated with the field of rural industry. The contents of the text should correspond to the requirements of level of education. The Maturity Test should be about 2-4 pages long and written in pencil on ever other line. A lecturer of the Finnish language and thesis advisor grade the test on a pass/fail basis.
