Objective

Student is knowledgeable on the evaluation and the role it has in social work and is critically able to address the meaning, means and targets of evaluation.

Content

Evaluation, when setting targets for social work and when working with clients as well as when assessing the efficiency of social work, is essential part of social work. Evaluation is based on the dea that there is something worth aiming for and some means are selected for getting there. Student reads the given material and writes an essay of six pages about evaluation in social work. Essay must b´ring fore different sides of evaluation and studetn must have a critical stance towards it.

Materials

Literature is agreed individually. The student is allowed to suggest relevant literature.

Teaching methods

The course is based on reading agreed literature and finalising the given written task.

The course does not contain cooperation with working life.

International connections

The aim is that part of the literature is in foreign language.

5 ECTS equals to approximately 135 hours of work for student.

Students know what is meant by evaluation and are able to describe evaluation in social work.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students know what is meant by evaluation and are able to describe evaluation in social work. They are able to explain about various means used in to evaluate the effectiveness of social work.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students are able to critically analyse the evaluation of social work and analytically discuss various dimensions of evaluation in social work.
