Objective

Students know how to plan, implement and evaluate activities for children. Students recognise typical features of children's and the community's culture and incorporate them in professional action. Students know the principles pertaining to small group activities and sense of community, and they have competence to implement them in their action. Students know how sustainable development can be promoted and taken into consideration in their action. Students are able to plan early childhood education in a way which allows integrating the action into society, culture and nature.

- planning, implementing and evaluating activities for child groups
- managing child groups and defining limits
- small group activities in as part of routines in day care centres
- cooperative activities as part of routines in day care centres
- taking the principles of sustainable development into account

Announced at the beginning of the course.

Teaching methods

Dataresearch by using theory, by using observation in the practical placement and by using personal experiences of supervision, illustrating presentation of supervision, seminar.

Student knows how to plan and implement activities for child groups with guidance. Student is aware of some of the features of culture and community. Student knows some principles of small group activities and cooperative activities. Student recognizes the principles of sustainable development and day care centres connections in the surrounding society, culture and nature.

Student can plan, implement and assess activities for child groups. Student is aware of and takes into account the features of culture and community. Student knows the principles of small group activities and cooperative activities and takes them into account in his own action. Student recognizes the principles of sustainable development and understands day care centres importance in the surrounding society, culture and nature.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Student can plan, implement and assess activities for child groups. Student can analyze the features of culture and community and apply those in his own actions creatively. Student has internalized the principles of small group activities and cooperative activities and can apply them in his own action. Student can apply the principles of sustainable development and promote day care centres importance in the surrounding society, culture and nature.
