Objective
The student can use free body diagrams and equations of equilibrium to determine the support reactions and internal forces of pinned beams and frames.

- Internal forces of pinned beams: normal force, shear force and bending moment

The student is able to solve the reactions of abutment of a simple hinged beam and framework as well as to draw their shear force and bending moment figures.

The student is able to solve the reactions of abutment of complex hinged beams and frameworks as well as to draw their shear force and bending moment figures.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student is able to apply the competencies obtained during the course in the mechanics of structures in the analysis of practical structures. They are also able to exploit spreadsheet software when finding out the forces of common beam, lattice and framed structures.
