Objective
Students know the systems that provide services and support for children, school-age children and adolescents and they learn to work in collaboration with other professionals. Students know how to assess and support the growth and development of children, school-age children and adolescents, and are able to evaluate the effect of lifestyle and environments on the clients' health. Students learn to assess and support the resources of children, school-age children, young people and their families, and to support parents in their growth into parenthood and in their couple relationship. Students learn to encourage families in changes of lifestyle. They know how to monitor the client's growth and development, apply screening methods and, when required, refer the children or young people to further care. Students are able to recognize risks and disorders in the health, growth, development, safety and social development of children, school-age children and adolescents, and are able to intervene early. Students know how to assess childen's and young people's needs for special care and support together with the families and other collaboration partners. Students co-operate with families and other actors to maintain and promote a safe growth environment. Students know the contents of health education given at schools and they are able to contribute to the contents as experts of health promotion in school communities and student health care services.

Public health nursing services, service provision systems and service pathways for children, school-age children, adolescents and their families. Health clinic services for under school-age children, family services networks and family centres. Students' health care services and multi-professional collaboration. Monitoring and screening in child health clinics, school and student health care services. Assessment of under school-age children's growth and development and identification of risks. Assessment of school-age children's and young people's/students' growth and development and identification of risks. The main interventions in public health nursing. Lifestyle counselling, early intervention, initiating discussion. Empowered parenthood and how to support it.
