- osaa toimia moniammatillisessa vastaanotto- ja polikliinisessa hoitotyössä potilaan iän, kasvu- ja kehitysvaiheen sekä erilaisten hoito- ja palveluympäristöjen ja eettisyyden vaatimukset huomioon ottaen.
- osaa arvioida kulttuuritaustaltaan erilaisten potilaiden ja heidän läheistensä voimavarat ja tukea heitä eri- ikäisen vastaanotto- ja polikliinisen hoitotyön suunnittelussa, toteutuksessa ja arvioinnissa.
- osaa suunnitella, toteuttaa ja arvioida vastaanotto- ja polikliinista hoitotyötä.
- osaa soveltaa vastaanotto- ja polikliinisessa hoitotyössä käytössä olevia näyttöön perustuvia hoitotyön auttamisen, tukemisen ja ohjaamisen menetelmiä.

Objective
COMPETENCE IN HEALTH PROMOTION
Students will follow the principles of promoting and supporting the health and resources of patients of all ages. Students will learn the main factors that influence the health and illness of outpatients. Under supervision, students will be able to recognise patients' individual needs for rehabilitation and support their rehabilitation.
CLINICAL COMPETENCE, COUNSELLING AND MENTORING COMPETENCE
Students will search, process and evaluate knowledge critically to meet their patients' needs. Students will be competent in identifying and evaluating changes and disorders in a patient's basic vital functions and, under supervision, in initiating appropriate nursing interventions. Students will, under supervision, be able to recognise individual rehabilitation needs of patients and support them during the rehabilitation process. Under supervision, students will be competent in preparing patients for treatment and monitoring and caring for them during and after the treatment. Students will follow asepsis in outpatient nursing. Students will, under supervision, be able to implement common treatments, procedures and examinations. Under supervision, they will be able to implement intravenous fluid, drug and nutritional care and blood transfusions. Students will learn to recognise pain and they will, under supervision, be able to plan, implement and evaluate pain control. Students will be prepared for continuous learning. Under supervision, students will be competent in applying research and evidence-based knowlege to counsel patients on issues pertaining to health and illness. Students will, under supervision, be able to plan, implement and evaluate counselling situations.
ETHICAL COMPETENCE, COMPETENCE IN CUSTOMERSHIP IN HEALTH CARE AND DECISION-MAKING COMPTENCE
Under supervision, students will be competent in identifying needs of patients and their families and in planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting nursing care. Students will learn the structure of the service provision system and common service parthways. Students will learn to give oral reports under supervision. They will also be competent in dealing with patients in various life situations. They will become familiar with the principles of patient-oriented, resource-based and multi-professional nursing of patients and their families. Students will know how to utilise information and nursing technology and equipment. They will apply the nursing ethical principles to outpatient nursing.
WORKING COMMUNITY COMPETENCE
Students will be competent in interaction as members of the working community, including appeciation of colleagues and promotion of wellbeing in the working community. Students will know how to utilise information and communication technologies in nursing in Out-Patient Clinics. Students will learn to make decisions in ad hoc situations.
INNOVATION COMPETENCE, LEARNING COMPETENCE
Students will be competent in critically evaluating their level of professional expertise with regard to their strengths and weaknesses. Students will reflect on and evaluate their competences and skills and learn to solve problems and develop the outpatient practice creatively. They will learn to consider essential factors that affect their patients' health and illness. Students will be aware of the physical and mental aspects of occupational safety in the promotion and maintenance of their wellbeing at work.
INTERNATIONALIZATION COMPETENCE
Students will learn to interact with people that represent various cultures. They will demonstrate ability to communicate in a foreign language and to work in multicultural environments in out-patient clinics. Students will be aware of the influence and options brought on by international developments in nursing.
Content
Legislation for outpatient services, main concepts in outpatient nursing, structure of the service provision system and service pathways. Outpatient clinic as a nursing setting/ different types of outpatient clinics, and client-centred nursing activities and interventions. Nurse's duties in outpatient clinics as members of the multi-professional team. Documentation in outpatient nursing. Supporting the self-care of the patient. Quality management and development in outpatient nursing. Physical and mental aspects of occupational safety.

Student workload
2 opintopistettä (=54 tuntia) koostuu teoriatunneista, Moodle oppimisympäristön materiaaleista ja verkkokeskusteluista, seminaaritehtävästä, poliklinikkakäynnistä ja itsenäisestä työskentelystä.
