Objective
The final project/ / thesis develops and demonstrates the student's ability to apply their competencies in a practical expert assignment related to the professional studies. In the thesis process, the student learns problem-solving, a research-oriented and developing way of thinking, independent information search, and the presentation of results in writing. The student is able to present in their report the results of a production in a logical way, using good language as well as professional and scientific terminology. The thesis project allows for creativity, experiments and original applications. The thesis can be written as an individual work or as part of a more extensive research or development project. In addition to a written part, the thesis may include a productive part
Content
For the student, the thesis is a learning process, which includes the following features:
- usability in practice
- research-orientation
- close presence of working-life representatives in the process, e.g., as supervisors or evaluators
- connection between the supervisor and the student
- application of theory in practice
- creativity and innovation
Planning of the thesis: choice of subject, preparation of a research plan and its presentation at a seminar, agreement with the commissioner, and possible research permission
Implementation of the thesis: Implementation of the thesis taking the related requirements and criteria into account
Reporting on the thesis: written report and oral presentation. Observing SeAMK's Instructions for thesis work and written work. Check with Ouriginal, publication of the thesis
Materials
The student works independently to search information and material to one's own thesis
Teaching methods
The thesis consists of the student's independent work, taking into account the objectives, requirements, and criteria related to the thesis. The work includes planning, implementation, and reporting of one's own work. It comprises the student's independent work, participation in seminars, and various tasks related to the thesis such as: selecting a topic and presenting it in a seminar, creating and presenting a research plan in a seminar, making an agreement with the client and obtaining a possible research permit; the written report and oral presentation of the thesis, following SeAMK's thesis guidelines and written instructions, Turnitin check, and the publication of the thesis.
Student workload
The thesis is a 15-credit unit that consists of 405 hours of independent work by the student, including the presentation of the work in planning, interim, and final seminars.
