Objective

The student
-is able to counsel and support clients in matters related to couple relationship and family planning.
-in cooperation with the families, the student is able to plan, implement and evaluate the monitoring and strengthening of child-expecting families' health, well-being and resources.
-knows how to assess the health of the mother and fetus, detect risks related to pregnancy or childbirth and, when necessary, refer the client for further care.
-can manage labour.
-is able to plan, implement and evaluate the newborn baby's and family's support and promote their participation.

Content

Practical training in maternity health clinics, hospital maternity clinics and ward. eDrug Care Certificate. Assignments.

Teaching methods

Supervised training in maternity and family planning clinics and in hospital women's wards (maternity) and women's outpatient clinics (pregnant women).

Workseed in maternity and family planning clinics.

1 credit = 27 hours of student work

Fail = 0
The student
-is unable to assume responsibility for clients' internal and external safety.
-does not know how to use dialogue or client-centered discussion or how to involve clients' families and the significant others in health care.
-is unable to know to an adequate degree how to use counselling methods to help maintain and promote individuals'/families' health.
-in counselling work, the student does not consider client individuality or self-determination.
-does not know how to promote clients' and their families' resources or how to intervene to fight health risks on an adequate level.
-does not know how to use multi-disciplinary teams to promote clients' health.
-is unable to recognize outcomes or effectiveness of health promotion.
-is unable to independently plan and implement target-oriented family-centered public health nursing or to make decisions together with clients and their families.
-does not know how to promote the health of individuals, families, groups, communities or the environment and is unable to use evidence-based public health nursing methods.
-does not know how to follow up or support clients' individual health, growth and development.
-does not know how to engage in multidisciplinary collaboration.
