Objective

Occupational and environmental safety in construction
Students are aware of the impact of site preparation (e.g. clearing, excavation, quarrying) on occupational and environmental safety.

Competence in structural engineering
Students know the important building properties of various types of soil and the impact the soil and the working conditions have on the earthwork. Students know the work stages and methods in earthwork. They know how to choose the necessary machinery and equipment. They know the concepts related to volume and mass coefficients in earthwork.

Competence in the construction process
Students understand the role of geotechnics and foundation construction as part of a construction project, and take into consideration their effect on the total cost of the project.

Content

? Construction properties of soil
? Appropriate machinery for earthwork
? Execution of the earthwork project.
? Important stages of earthwork (e.g. clearing, excavation, quarrying, piling, filling and compaction, plumbing, yard structures and preparing the area)
? Compatibility of the loading and transport machinery
? Concepts of volume and mass coefficients
