Objective

The student knows how to communicate in simple work situations both orally and in writing.
He
- can present his personal, educational, and work background.
- can prepare a CV and answer questions in a job interview in German
- can describe his work environment and tasks.
- knows telephone and electronic communication.
- knows how to present a product or service at e.g. fairs.

Teaching methods

Spoken, written and listening exercises. Contact lessons and independent work. Classroom language Finnish/German.

Distance lessons: Tuesdays 14.15-17

Exam schedules

Spoken and written exam at the end of the course. Two retake options in case of a failed exam. Retakes for written exam every 3 weeks. Retake for spoken exam if necessary.

Completion alternatives

Students can demonstrate their prior knowledge of the course contents to get the credit points.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student uses simple structures and a narrow vocabulary in his communication, but mistakes hinder comprehensibility. She/he understands slow and clear speech and easy professional text. She/he helpfully copes with predictable work-life situations. The influence of other languages is noticeable in the pronunciation.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student uses basic structures in communication almost flawlessly and understands texts related to working life. The student copes moderately in anticipated working-life situations verbally and in writing. The pronunciation is understandable.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student uses the basic structures of the language and professional basic vocabulary almost without errors. The student communicates fluently in foreseeable working life situations and understands professional texts. The student's pronunciation is close to that of the target language.

Qualifications

High school short syllabus or German 1, 2, and 3 or similar information.

The target level of the course is A2-B.1.1 on the skill level scale of the European reference framework.

Further information

The assignments and tests of the course must be submitted and approved in order to have access to the final exam(s).
Attendance in online lessons is not compulsory but strongly recommended.
Online lessons: Tuesdays 14.15 - 17.00
