Objective
Competence in the construction process:
The aim of the course is to enable students to apply their knowledge of steel structures to practical applications. On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Describe the stages and working methods of steel structure fabrication both in the workshop and on site.
- Identify the basics of quality assurance in steel construction.
- To draw up the drawings and the installation plan in the workshop
Content
- Eurocode system (EN 1993 parts 1-1... 1-12, parts 2,3,4,5 and 6, SFS EN 1090 parts, national annexes)
- Steel as building material and steel products (incl. stainless steels)
- Typical structural steel solutions
- Bolted connections
- Basics of machine shop operations (fabrication of steel structures in the machine shop)
- Welding: quality control, methods and marking
- Corrosion
- Paint systems in steel structures
- Drawings
- Installation of steel structures

- The student recognises the stages and working methods of steel construction both in the workshop and on site.
- The student can describe the basics of quality assurance in steel construction.
- The student will be able to draw up simple shop drawings and installation plans.
- The student will be able to return the exercises related to the course.

- The student is able to describe well the stages and working methods of steel construction both in the workshop and on the site.
- The student has a good knowledge of the basics of quality assurance in steel construction.
- The student is able to draw up comprehensive shop drawings and installation plans.
- The student will return the coursework on time.

- The student has excellent and versatile skills in describing the stages and working methods of steel construction both in the workshop and on the construction site.
- The student will be able to apply the principles of quality assurance in steel construction in practical situations.
- The student will be able to draw up detailed and accurate shop drawings and installation plans.
