Objective

Competence in the construction process.
Students are familiar with the zoning levels used in Finland. They know the legal basis for zoning. Students understand the basic principles of land use planning in Finland. They understand the objectives of zoning. They are able to read local master plans and understand the impact of zoning regulations on construction projects.

Content

- basics of land use planning
- basic principles of national direction
- zoning process and legislative definitions guiding it
- regional plan, master plan and town plan
- plan symbols

Materials

Land Use Planning and Building Law and Act in part, plan symbols and planning ordinance.
Lecturer´s own material.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students know the basics of zoning regulations and the zoning process. They understand the different levels of zoning and know how to find info in the local master plan for their building project.

Students know the official practices and process of zoning. They understand the different levels of zoning. They know how to find info from different zoning plans and apply it to different situations in working life and different construction projects.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students understand the official practices of zoning and how the zoning process works. They are familiar with different zoning levels. They know how to find information from different zoning plans, interpret zoning plans, and apply the information obtained from them to different situations in working life and construction projects.
