Objective
Upon completion of the course, students:
- understand the destructive and non-destructive inspection and examination procedures for metals.
- understand the principles associated with shaping sheet metall
- know how to coat steel surfaces.
- be knowledgeable of superplastic materials.
- understands the crystal-level changes that occur in a welded joint of alloy steels.
- be knowledgeable of various structural steels and high strength steels.
- can assess the ecological impacts of material choices and make sustainable selections.

Location and time
The schedules for the scheduled online teaching can be found in the timetable at https://lukkarikone.seamk.fi/. Timetables are published for the next six weeks. The first six weeks of autumn are published by Midsummer and the first six weeks of spring by Christmas. Timetables may be subject to changes.
Materials
Teacher´s material in moodle.
Teaching methods
Completion of the course requires participation in online teaching.
The course is conducted in the Moodle learning environment. The course requires independent work and scheduling.
Choose also the appropriate options for the study from the following:
- The course includes joint online meetings/pair or group work.
- The recordings of the teaching sessions are available for later viewing in Moodle.
- The course also includes independent work online.
- The student familiarizes themselves with the theoretical material, completes online assignments / practice project / exam according to the given instructions.
Completion alternatives
This implementation can be completed in the following alternative ways. The completion methods are described in more detail in the Moodle learning environment.
- Pair/group/project work
- Seminar or presentation
Student workload
The workload of the study is designed so that one credit corresponds to an average of 27 hours of student work to achieve the learning objectives. The actual time required varies individually, e.g., due to prior knowledge.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Level 1-2: The student knows the properties of the metallic materials and their possibilities to use.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
Level 3-4: The student knows the effect of material qualifications on their possibilities to use.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Level 5: The student can adapt the demands of the use of making and the product to the material qualifications.
