Objective
After completing the course, the student
- is able to communicate in simple everyday oral and written situations
- masters the following structures from basic grammar: accusative of personal pronouns, pronouns: accusative and prepositional, inflection and time forms of verbs, the inflection of adjectives in the nominative of a unit, plural of nouns and adjectives, basic movement verbs
- can travel in Russian
- is able to do business in Russian
- can speak Russian on the phone
- speaks months and days of the week in Russian
- can tell about living, work, family, language skills
- understand a written text in a general language with the help of a dictionary and be able to write short written messages
- understand Russian customary culture

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Students are able to communicate in some everyday oral situations when helped. Students make mistakes in pronunciation. Students understand some slowly spoken speech and can find the theme and understand some words and expressions in written texts.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
Students are able to communicate independently in everyday oral situations, mistakes don?t disturb communication. Pronunciation is mainly understandable. Students can understand main points in a slowly spoken speech and texts.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Students are able to active, independent, and understandable communication in everyday oral situations. Pronunciation is like a native Russian speaker. Students understand speech in normal tempo and written texts. They can write understandable text which may have minor mistakes.
