Objective
Competence in the construction process
The student knows different bar structures (beam, truss and frame).
Competence in structural engineering
Students will be competent in correctly using basic variables in statics, drawing free body diagrams for structures and forming equilibrium equations for simple bar structures such as trusses, beams and frames. Moreover, they will be able to define stress resultant diagrams for simple bar structures using equilibrium equations.
Content
- Force, components of force and force resultants
- Momentum and force couple
- Free body diagram
- Equilibrium equations
- Surface center of area
- Support reactions
- Recognising a statically determinate structure
- Member forces of truss structure
- Internal forces and stress resultant diagrams of beam- and frame structures
- Inclined beam
- Pinned beam and -frame
- Linearly changing load
